::If you are looking at this, then most likely you are because you are coming to the National Park. For the sake of visiting the National Park, the majority of things to do are in the Town of Vatia. Definitely check out the 'Parking for Pola Island Viewpoint' and the 'Tuafanua Trailhead' (both listed here on GoogleMaps). If you want to enjoy some beach time/swimming/snorkeling, in Vatia there are 2 small sandy beaches that meet the water on the Northwest side of town (you will see them from the road as you drive into Vatia). You can park in the grass on the right hand side of the road. We waited for one of the locals to pass us by to ask permission for us to use the beach for swimming and snorkeling and they happily allowed us to - as they generally always do without charging you to park/use the beach. There is some great snorkeling with a lot of coral out in the Vatia Bay, but make sure you ask permission from one of the locals first, as no beaches on the island of American Samoa are public beaches.

::It’s not a long hike to the end of the trail but it’s a bit more difficult that you be led to believe. There are 221 steps heading down and the back up. The trail is narrow and requires a lot of bending to get through. I’m 6’ 3” and wife is 5’ 7” and we both had to crouch for about a quarter of the trail. Bring some water, the humidity and heat can get you fairly quick. There are tree crabs and lizards so don’t panic. I don’t recommend hiking while raining as the stones could be dangerous when wet. We hiked wearing flip flops and it was fine. The views are amazing and worth the effort.

::5-10 min hike down rock stairs leading you down to a rocky cliff with great view of Pola island and the shore below. Rocks likely slippery when wet
